Workshop 1: Digital Resources for Innovative Teaching and Learning Methods

Style of the workshop:

Discussion-oriented involving some papers’ presentation and a few related software systems’ demonstration

A brief description of the workshop topic:

The E-learning, especially game-based learning, provides new ways to flexible teaching and learning activities. Usually, experts and professionals in education and IT fields pay more attentions on designing teaching and learning methods, platforms and environments. However, we know, the digital resources are the basis for teaching and learning activities. If there are no high qualities’ e-learning resources to support them, their values cannot be embodied. Clearly, we should pay more attentions on developing e-learning resources. Digital resources alongside games and other interactive activities can speed up learners’ process of acquiring knowledge and constructing personal meaning greatly. This workshop’s objective is to explore the methods and tools of developing digital education resources that can promote innovative teaching and learning methods. The workshop’s goal is to make game-based learning activities development can benefit from and promote digital resources development, and vice versa.

The workshop, which will last half a day and will be held in the Edutainment 2010, can meet the goals of Edutainment 2010 Conference. Participants in this workshop will dedicate their time to the presentations and demonstrations of tools and prototype systems on developing digital education resources. The workshop will not only conclude the current research and practice situations on digital education resources development, but also point out their contributions and perspectives for the game-based activities.

Call for Papers:

Recently, there has been growing interest and discussion on how to develop resources for supporting effective teaching and learning activities, and on what kinds of resources can meet the needs of innovative teaching and learning methods. Suggested themes that the papers should be addressing include, but are not limited to:

•Innovative design and development approaches of education resources

•Managing strategies on digital education resources

•Architectures design of distributional education resources network

•Indexing and searching approaches on developing digital education resources library

•Development tools of digital education resources

•Classification and management of subject-specific digital education resources

Workshop 2: Research on the Theory and Practice of E-learning and Game-based Learning Environment

Style of the workshop:

Discussion-oriented involving some papers’ presentation and a few related software systems’ demonstration

A brief description of the workshop topic:

The digital game-based learning, which combines computer games and e-learning together, can make e-learning fun and make digital games more useful for students.  If the learner has fun, their learning will be more effective. The digital game-based learning is becoming a hot topic. In order to make this combination more powerful, the designer and developer on the both sides should know well each other. Moreover, the traditional e-learning platforms and tools need to be renovated to meet the needs of innovation of teaching and learning methods. Thus, it is necessary to do research on the theory and practice of e-learning and game-based learning environment. This workshop’s objective is to present and discuss the theory and practice of game-based learning and e-learning environment designing which can promote the innovative teaching and learning methods.

The workshop, which will last half a day and will be held in the Edutainment 2010, can meet the goals of Edutainment 2010 Conference. Participants in this workshop will dedicate their time to the presentations and demonstrations of tools and prototype systems on e-learning and game-based learning environment design. The workshop will not only conclude the current research and practice situations on learning environment design and development, but also point out their contributions and perspectives for the e-learning and game-based learning activities.

Call for Papers:

Currently, some work on developing e-learning and game-based learning environment has been done, such as adaptive learning supporting system, adaptive testing system, and using robot as a tool for learning robotics and problem solving, and so on. Suggested themes that the papers should be addressing include, but are not limited to:

•Theory and practice of adaptive learning system design

•Theory and practice of adaptive testing system design

•Theory and practice of game-based learning system design

•Innovative design and development approaches of education Information  management system
